Securing Santa Cruz Water Future: A Pathway to a Resilient Water Supply in the Age of Climate Change

Speakers: Claudia Llerandi, with Heidi Luckenbach of Santa Cruz Water Department

The City of Santa Cruz is developing a water supply portfolio that is adaptable to climate change and can be implemented incrementally to maintain affordability for the community. It is difficult to make decisions around future water supply under conditions of deep uncertainty. KJ’s specialist in water supply resilience, Claudia Llerandi, and co-speaker Heidi Luckenbach of the Santa Cruz Water Department will present on using models and adaptive pathways to plan water resources and evaluate proposed infrastructure-based adaptation strategies under uncertain climate conditions.

Ventura MBR/UV Project: Increased Reliability, Lower Nitrogen, Potable Reuse

Speakers: Todd Reynolds, with Keel Robinson of Trussell Technologies

The Ventura Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection Project will replace aging and deficient infrastructure, improve tertiary water quality, and become the first treatment components of a potable reuse advanced water purification facility (AWPF) treatment process. KJ Drinking Water Treatment Service Leader Todd Reynolds is teaming up with Keel Robinson from Trussell Technologies to highlight the design approach to the evaluation, pre-qualification, and pre-selection of the Ventura MBR and UV equipment so that the tertiary treated water will be potable and reuse ready.

Twice As Nice: Future Proofing Recycled Water Infrastructure Using a Digital Twin

Speaker: Connor Rutten

Recycled water (RW) systems face the challenge of matching variable supply to system demand fluctuations with equalization storage. Peak RW demands must be met from either distribution system storage or a pump station. Digital twins (DT) such as hydraulic models can be leveraged to evaluate the tradeoffs between storage or pump stations to meet peak demands. Listen in on Monday as Conner Rutten explains how to pair seasonal storage analysis with a digital twin to identify cost-effective infrastructure solutions to serve RW customers.
