Kennedy Jenks (KJ) is proud to celebrate that Alicia Suzuki was named to the Engineering News-Record (ENR) list of Top Young Professionals for the newly formed ENR West region.
Alicia Suzuki, Principal and Hawaiʻi Group Leader for KJ, has been named an ENR West Top Young Professional! This annual recognition honors rising stars in the engineering and construction industry across the U.S. who are committed to community development, industry advancement, and excellence in their careers. This year, ENR shook up the process by incorporating California, Hawaiʻi, Nevada, Oregon, Alaska, and Washington into the ENR West region, making competition especially steep.
Alicia joined KJ in 2017 to work on projects ranging from water supply to wastewater collection and treatment. In 2022, she was elevated to Group Leader for KJ’s Hawaiʻi office. As Group Leader, she has focused on strategic hiring, increasing workload balance, and diversifying the overall services the office offers to KJ clients.
“I’ve tried to focus on becoming an effective coach for my team,” Alicia shared. “In my day-to-day tasks, I don’t just keep tabs on office performance, but I enjoy establishing relationships with each employee, helping them grow their value and achieve their career goals.”
Alicia’s career is marked by her development of outstanding client relationships that provide obvious benefits for the clients and have led to a series of successful projects for KJ. She was a leader for the recent facilities planning project for the largest WWTP on the Island of Maui, helping the County find solutions to operational and capacity challenges, and addressing longer-term relocation needs.
Alicia’s work life reflects her love of the Hawaiian islands. She is dedicated to protecting Hawaiʻi’s environment and maintaining its beauty for the residents. This passion has also inspired her to serve in several roles, including President, for the Hawaiʻi Water Environment Association (HWEA). She can often be found volunteering with local schools to encourage interest in engineering and improving the environment, with a focus on inspiring young women to consider careers in STEM.
Alicia holds both a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa.
