Kennedy Jenks was the Program Manager on Silicon Valley Clean Water’s (SVCW) $580M Regional Environmental Sewer Conveyance Upgrade (RESCU) Program, which was recently awarded an American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California 2025 Merit Award.
The ACEC California Merit Awards recognize outstanding engineering projects completed by California firms. Award recipients will officially be recognized at the Engineering Excellence Awards Ceremony in Orange County, CA on February 5, 2025. Congratulations to SVCW and our RESCU team for another award for this exciting project! View the full list of ACEC California 2025 award winners.
RESCU has racked up an impressive list of awards. The SVCW Gravity Pipeline Project, one part of RESCU, earned several national awards from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA): the 2023 National Award of Merit – Water/Wastewater category, 2023 National Award of Excellence – Water/Wastewater category, and 2023 Best in Design Award – Engineering category. ENR California named the SVCW Gravity Pipeline the Northern California Best Project in Water/Environment in 2023. The SVCW Gravity Pipeline received the 2023 Best Project in the Large (>$25M) Utilities Category from APWA Silicon Valley Chapter, as well as the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) 2023 Project of the Year Award and the Water Conveyance and Distribution Award.
SVCW also received the inaugural 2023 I.N.S.P.I.R.E.D Owner Award, which recognizes an innovative newcomer who showcases preparedness, insight, readiness, and enduring diligence in the project execution.
The complex $250M Gravity Pipeline project included the installation of the first use of 11-ft inside diameter fiberglass reinforced pipe (FRP). It also required custom-built equipment to install the pipe inside the tunnel over a mile from nearest access point, further adding to the complexity of the project. By embracing progressive design-build project delivery, SVCW was able to maintain a cost-effective plan and fast-track the overall construction process. The project successfully navigated the challenges of the pandemic and came in under budget.
In addition to the Gravity Pipeline, KJ oversaw two other projects as RESCU program manager: the Front of Plant and the Pump Station Improvements projects. The program involved the construction of new wastewater conveyance facilities and completing upgrades to existing infrastructure that will connect the existing wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to the new facilities. RESCU significantly improved capacity, efficiency, and sustainability of wastewater treatment for the region. Learn more about RESCU.
